Ethernet Cradle Wednesday June 20, 2001 - 3:15 PM EST - By Marcus Adolfsson  Portsmith today announced an Ethernet Cradle designed for the Visor, Visor Deluxe, and Visor Platinum models.
"Ethernet cradles are the most logical connection of choice for handheld computers in the enterprise. Using existing DHCP servers, they can be integrated quickly, easily, and economically," says Holmes Lundt, President and CEO of Portsmith, Inc. Lundt goes on to say, "With the introduction of the cradle for the Handspring Visor, Visor Deluxe, and Visor Platinum, Portsmith continues its commitment to offer a full line of Ethernet connectivity options for handheld computers." Currently, most handheld devices can only be connected to an Ethernet network via a cable/card type connection through an expansion slot like the Springboard expansion slot or via a wireless LAN card. Cradle-based Ethernet connectivity offers a convenient, easy-to-use solution that leaves expansion slots available for other uses and in some cases also provides simultaneous battery recharging. Handspring embraces the announcement of the new Portsmith model. "The Portsmith Ethernet cradle provides more options for connectivity and integration in the corporate environment for people with Handspring Visors," said Scott Patterson, developer relations manager for Handspring. "Portsmith is a welcome addition to our growing group of developers." The Portsmith Ethernet Cradle for Handspring Visors will be available in quantities in July, 2001. It will be available through distribution channels, and in the Handspring store on the PalmGear website. Portsmith will be demonstrating the latest cradle product at PC Expo in New York City, June 26-28, 2001. Look for them in the Handspring Pavilion, booth No. 2636. |
