User Opinions: OmniRemote

eujincCool gadget.

Thumbs Up

The only downside is this module is a little pricey. I have to admit I was a little anxious when I read some of the reviews concerning difficulty in training and poor construction but so far I have 6 remotes trained without any problems. The macro function is very useful and I have used it to create macro buttons for all my favorite channels (no need to memorize the channel numbers anymore). By drawing the buttons a little bigger and adding a screen protector (eg. WriteRight) on my Visor, I never have to reach for my stylus to use this remote.

RuprectInnovative and fun!

Thumbs Up

This is a great product. Forget all the cynics out there that have Palms up there asses! This is a really neat product. Sure, it isn't a universal remote, but that's the whole point. For the serious Visor user, this is a must have toy. Very easy to set up, very fun to use. Macros make it all worthwhile.

Thumbs Down

I was thouroughly unimpressed not only with it's functionality, but it's build quality as well. I was unable to get any distance out of the unit when using it, no matter how many times I trained it. Triaining it a hassle, as it takes several tries to get it right. There should also be a DVD button built in already, with applicable functionality, as most of us have made the jump, especially us techies who would by something like the OmniRemote!! :) It is also a hassle to use the stylus to perform every function. Nothing will replace a good universal remote, and the good tactile feel of buttons.....this product sounds good on paper, but in the real world it just doesn't work....I sent mine back after 4 days of wrestling with it...

JayEasy to use

Thumbs Up

I had no trouble training the unit for my stereo, TV, VCR and DVD units. It does, sometimes, take pressing a button several times for it to register on the TV, or other device, but overall it's pretty good. I'll probably not use it for every day use, but with kids, the remotes do sometimes disappear for a day or so, and it's nice to have a backup.

BuazBuggy and difficult to train

Thumbs Down

I returned the unit because it was so buggy and difficult to train. It forgot settings and caused other problems with programs on my Visor Deluxe. Too expensive!

WmI like it!

Thumbs Up

I use the Omniremote to avoid having to carry lots of remotes when I travel - I work on the setup and calibration of high end home movie theaters. Often when I get there the customer remotes have been removed, since there is an automation system, but I often need codes that are not in the automation system (projector service, dvd title/search mode, etc.) I find Omniremote to work VERY well and have have had very little problems getting it to learn all the remotes I need. Works great once I learned how to set it up. William

JimboRNVery Difficult To Train

Thumbs Down

I've had absolutely NO success in training and using this product. I had it for one week and have returned it. Each time I trained any device, it would send my Visor into a loop and not stop. It took a soft reset to stop the loop. I tried retraining the device several times with no success. Then I got to thinking, do I really want to use my stylus to control the remote for my household electronics??? As a result, I have returned it. Nice idea for a product but, not the quality and reliability you would expect out of a $60 price tag.

JohnAbsolutely not

Thumbs Down

I had great difficulty programming the unit. When I did program my TV, the only thing I had the patience for, the software would randomly forget my settings and then remember them. I could never get its external IR port to work. The workmanship on the module itself was shoddy (seams did not meet). I returned my unit in two days. Your message board respondants ar most all disatisfied with the unit.

DustSheepWorks Great!

Thumbs Up

I've had the remote for a few weeks now and it works great! I use the timer and macros combined to wake me up in the morning to specific traks from my CD collection. I would agree, however that the physical construction of the unit leaves something to be desired, the seems are kinda splitting. Great product.

JonI have springboard and software versions

Thumbs Up

The range of the Springboard version is tremdous. I use the module in the hospital to turn off patients' TVs or turn down the volume when I'm on rounds. I can do this from the door and sometimes from the nursing station 30 feet from a TV. Sometimes I have my 8 mb flash module inserted, so I use the software version. Range is about 8-10 feet. No reprogramming necessary when switching from one to the other. There is a discount for those who already have the software version. I like Omniremote. I works well at home, and even my 4 yr. old son loves it (and Subhunt and ZAP!2000). The quality of the module leaves something to be desired. It's not put together very well and is s separating at the seams on the side where the emitter is. I think the hole for the emitter is too small. And the Springboard price should be about $25 instead of $60 (or $50 if you have the software version. On the otherhand, I use it often and it was a great Father's Day gift. I find it easy to create buttons, easy to train and use. Oh, and both hardware and software versions work great with Afterburner (must be registered) clocking at 28 MHz.
