The capacitors should store enough charge to keep the memory intact for at least a minute. In fact, several users have reported it lasting more than 10 minutes, although I personally wouldn't keep the batteries out for more than half a minute, just to be safe. And make sure you backup/HotSync BEFORE you change the batteries!
