The easiest solution is just to install the most recent OS patch from Handspring. Otherwise there is a workaround: When in the welcome screen, instead of pointing your stylus in the center of the target, point it just below it. This will offset the settings just enough so you don't inadvertently activate the calculator. Another option is to use the scroll buttons, or you can just be VERY careful where you press the screen when scrolling.
