Opinions: Power Accessory Kit
The Cat | Great System once some tweeks done |
| One trick; put some steel wool on the negative spring. I never got a good contact until I did this.
This is a great system since you can always add regular batteries when you have to go a long time away from the charger. Also the small AC to DC converter is great. I charge my VD with my car charger either going into work or coming home - real easy and foolproof since you can't forget. |
xanadu | FullCharge move over |
| Once passed the initial problem with the contact of the prongs on the top lid for the ICU Kit, everything has been working great. In comparison, the installation for the FullCharge went horribly wrong. I actually indended up breaking the metal prongs on the battery because they are soldered on?! Why are they soldered on in the first place, and second why did they do such a poor job? I'll trade anything for something that works, and the ICU works great. |

| Even though batteries are free at work, I got this so they would'nt be too low to use modules a lot. (Soundsgood, Eyemodule) I just connect it a few times a week. Wish the cord was longer though. |
visorTom | Not so fast... |
| You indicated that the FullCharge battery would have to be replaced after a year, but why? I started using the FullCharge for Palm a year ago and it's still going strong. I contacted eXtend Computer & Instrument (www.eXtendComputer.com) and they indicated that they expect batteries to last a couple years and haven't had any signs that batteries which have been in the field for the last year are having any problems.
You also indicated that while FullCharge is available with either an AC or an Auto adapter for $34.95, it would cost twice as much for both adapters. Actually, FullCharge is available as a Power User kit which includes both an AC and an Auto adapter for $54.95. That's only $5 more than the ICU kit and I got both adapters. I can leave one at my desk and the other one in my car. Personally, I hate going under my desk to plug in and unplug stuff.
I have looked at the ICU kit as well. The charge indicator is on the auto plug, which must be plugged into the AC adapter, which would be under my desk. How could I view the charge indicator? The FullCharge charge indicator is located at the end of the cord, right in the charge plug connected to my Palm or my Visor (that I added last December). Which reminds me, I can use my FullCharge adapters with my Palm and Visor FullCharge batteries. Even though the batteries are different, the chargers are the same!
And I can't agree more with the review of the ICU documentation. Compared to the complete instructions that came with FullCharge, on top of the detailed technical specs regarding NiMH batteries and the FAQ on the eXtend web site, it makes me wonder why the ICU people couldn't share more information about the use of the product.
Well, I don't want to write a review for FullCharge or take away from any part of the ICU device that a user might find useful, but I have to defend my FullCharge from what appear to be inaccurate comparisons. |
canuk | Great Product |
| I bought one last March after
reading about it in the Visor
article in January. Found the
product easy to install and use.
It is a simple product and the
instuctions, while scant are more then enough. |
