Opinions: SmartDoc
bookrats | A good DOC editor, but... |
| QuickWord (i.e., SmartDoc) is good at what it does -- editting and viewing DOCs. However, I don't use it anymore. WordSmith (while more expensive) has better Stowaway keyboard support; has an excellent easy-to-use interface; and (most importantly) allows font styles and indentions to be transferred back and forth between Word/RTF documents and the WordSmith Docs. WordSmith stills needs bookmark support and the ability to export WordSmith docs in pure DOC format; but these should be along soon. And the price for WordSmith is higher -- but I think it's worth it. |
Josh | Good product 4 out of 5 |
| For what it's intended to do, SmartDoc is a good little program. DocToGo recently came out with a new version which allows syncing and editing (more easily than SmartDoc, unfortunately), but the editable docs on the Palm are not in Doc format, but rather some DocsToGo format for which you have to have the corresponding program to view/edit. SmartDoc lets me edit standard Doc format documents, save the changes, and beam it to someone who may just have a Doc reader rather than DocsToGo Pro version 3. I do wish they'd come up with a conduit or desktop syncing program, though. |
Anonymous | The best document Editor I have used. |
| I have many so called document editors
our there ! They and lacked what I was
looking for. SmartDoc seem to have it all
in one program. |
Shane | Great program, but limiting in size... |
| An AWESOME DOC editor, with some VERY powerful features. My only gripe is it doesn't do well with documents over 10K in size. |
Anonymous | Very good Doc reader. |
| I've tried other readers/editors, including TealDoc and I like SmartDoc the best. It is one of the only readers that you can edit DOC files right on your Palm with a single tap. One of the other reasons I really prefer SmartDoc is the ability to beam docs using IR. I also use PalmDOCs (from www.visonary2000.com), it provides a very easy way to copy Word files from your PC to the Palm/Visor and back. |
Anonymous | good program; easy to use |
| SmartDoc is an easy-to-use program. I like the compress/uncompress features, although other posts were accurate in saying that compression is slow. I only wish that it is less involved in converting docs from Visor/Palm to PC. |
ConexantGuy | TakeNote wins by a nose |
| Landware's TakeNote (provided with the GoType Pro) is slightly superior.
Features like being able to see the document name at the top of the screen and
the conduit for transfering documents back and forth, make TakeNote a better value.

YonksMan | SmartDoc is the BEST Reader/Editor |
| I also use SmartDoc combined with PalmDocs. It is by far the best Doc Reader/Editor available on the market currently. I have used this program before it was bought by Cutting Edge, and still think its tops. |
VisorBoy | SmartDoc is an Excellent Program |
| I downloaded SmartDoc a month or two ago and it is one of the programs I use the most on my Visor. I take notes with it in class and write documents for school and work. It is easily worth the 19.95 it costs. |
Red Ramage | The best available, for now... |
| I think that SmartDoc is currently your best bet for a Doc editor on the palm. There still are a lot of things I would like to see, but it's a start at least.
Thinks I'd love to see:
1. A good Conduit
2. Support for formating like BOLD
_underline_ and *italics*
I'm hoping that iambic's DocVis might add some of these features when it comes out of Beta. |
