Opinions: HandyGPS
Anonymous | Needs Software Improvements |
| This product was released too soon. I have yet to use it for more than 30 minutes without a system lock up. Twice I've had to do a hard reboot. HandyGPS should ship the Visor backup module with their unit and tell people to back up before using! |
Desert Rat | Same problems as most here.... |
| Got mine for Christmas, same probs as most. Poor locking, poor battery life. It seems as if these units either work great or not at all...I wonder if it's a factory issue or something, as the same problems are occuring with remarkable regularity. And yes, I do know how to use a GPS, know to be patient, know to have a clear sky, free from obstacles, etc. etc.....MY unit did not work as it should...period.
Really wish I had gotten one of the good ones. If you are going to buy, do it from Palm Central, Palm Gear, or whoever you use. DO NOT BUY DIRECT FROM NEXIAN!!! Their customer support doesn't even suck, because it's non-existent!!! It took half a dozen phone calls and several e-mails over the course of a week just to get a response from them! Their mailbox is always full...I wonder why? ;-)
I did finally get a RMA, now we'll see how long it takes to get the $$ back.....
Really bummed, as the Geode is twice the price. |
Roundman | Works just fine! |
| I dont know why people do not like it. Naturally it takes some time for the birds to lock in, but considering this is a mega functional device it works just dandy. I have found that once it is locked in it is exceptionally accurate. Maybe those who dont like are used to one of those high dollar GPS units which do nothing but locate. For the everyday user this one works!!! |
Giz | Get over it |
| The unit definitely works, depending where you are the satelitte lock times can vary. I wonder if everyone posted here that says it doesnt work actually used it correctly, some people here couldnt get off a battery cover ?! I would recommend it. |
Jason M | happy customer |
| I'm really confused as to why either this product works great or doesn't work at all. I'm one of the lucky ones. I agree that it does take patience. I suggest that you speak to their customer support group before giving up and sending it back. My guess is they all work but maybe just not to the level that some people would expect. My second suggestion is to buy a more expensive unit. This one is worth the money and suits my needs just fine. |
Anonymous | Never got a satellite |
| My review sounds the same as most complaining, I simply could not link to ANY satellite, ever. Also ran down 2 sets of batteries, GPS and Visor, trying to get it going. I have been warning my friends away from this product. |
Cassidy | what a fun product |
| I actually never used a GPS before. My husband bought it for me for Xmas (I think he really wanted it). I'm not one for reading and figuring things out, but he showed me how it worked in the car and I thought it really amazed me. There I was, that little black dot on the screen. We use it all the time and it works all the time. I can't wait for the Rand McNally maps because I'm one for wanting door to door directions on getting somewhere rather than where I am that exact moment. Their customer support told me the Rand McNally software will provide that. I will also add that their support team was very helpful and friendly. |
Ricky | excellent customer support |
| I purchased this product last week from Palmgear. I had some problems at first (satellite issues) and I called their customer support. They were wonderful. They kept me on the phone until I had the gps working perfectly. I was thrilled. It is good to know there is a support team that really cares about the customer. I recommend this to anyone. It does work, and it is annoying to read these messages stating otherwise.
The HandyGPS does WORK! There, enough said |
geosavvy | Waiting for my Geode |
| This did not work once. Can't wait for the Geode to ship next week. |
Anonymous | Does not work |
| Same problems as the others: terrible on batteries, inconsistent performance, and lockups. Palm HQ was good about taking the return. |
