JackBack Software
The Future We've seen lots of news on alternate memory formats for the Visor. A crucial component of the "ultimate Visor memory solution" would be Backups. It's nice to have the options of various Springboards for various activities, but which springboard should you keep in your Visor all the time? Which ever module I'll choose will have to have a recent Backup. You just never know when your batteries die, or a Hackmaster Hack goes bad. JackBack supports a wide variety of backup media by way of a PlugIn architecture. If you choose to manually install JackBack, circumventing their auto-installer, their readme.txt files explain which .PRCs to install for your particular hardware situation. I was lucky enough to work with a Beta of the CompactFlash plugin (coming soon they say, not soon enough I say). Once this plugin is installed, if JackBack sees your CF Adapter, you're set. The rest of the program works exactly as before. Complaints My only complaint with JackBack is the glaring lack of a Progress Bar during long operations. This is a complaint I have with most apps on the Palm. If you know how many databases you are working on, and you know the total count of bytes - give me a progress bar. Other than this small nitpick, it is a winner. |
