Opinions: WriteRight
Josh McGown | expensive and annoying, but effective |
| The WriteRight screen protectors are a must for any pda. I just got my Visor Dlx. for Christmas and this was the first thing I bought. They are annoying and hard to put on at first, and they attract alot of dust but they still protect the screen very well. Even though 20 bucks (not 27.99) for twelve thin pieces of plastic seems like alot they are well worth it. |
Anonymous | "tell your friends" |
| I've been using these for three and a half years
(and still haven't run out even though I gave
a couple away).
When I convince a friend to buy a Palm or Visor,
I make sure they have a screen protector.
Save them the angst of a scratch on their new toy.
If they don't want to invest in a whole pack of
their own - sell 'em one sheet. This is what
someone did to me and now I am hooked, eh. |
Kt | It keeps those nasty fingerprints from bothering me! |
| It is a great product! I've heard that there is some copyright dispute around this item and that you can't resell it on ebay. Read the newsgroups and form your own opinion about it. It has saved the screen on my Visor more times than I can count. |
Anonymous | Well worth the investment. |
| I got my Palm Personal in May '97 and I just used my last one (textured) on my Visor Prism, just until I can get the new "color compatible) clear ones. |
TH | Dust, come hither! |
| People have commented on the texture of the WriteRight overlays, which may be a personal issue for some. Myself, I'm not too bothered by the texture but rather by the fact that the plastic tends to gather a lot of dust after even just a few days of use. It can be a little difficult to wipe this off at times. Given how much these overlays cost, I've taken to cutting them to fit the Graffiti section only, leaving the rest of the screen uncovered and more easily wipeable. Even so, I think I'll be looking for another screen protector (scotch tape?) after this pack is finished. |
Aaron | Expensive but text recognition suprisingly seems to improve. |
| It is good that you get twelve of these things because it is somewhat difficult to apply without any bubbles or lint underneath. Overall, I would recommend them because text recognition improves and it does reduce glare in bright light. The fit on the Visor is fine on the top and bottom. However there is a very small space on either side and this allows some lint to accumulate on the sides. If the price were lower, I would recommend whole-heartedly. Though you can usually find them for about $20 at places like outpost.com.
Also there is an alternative, though I haven't tried these:

Jess | It does help me write better on screen and protects my screen. |
| It is a good product. I like it very much. It protects my screen and helps me to write "better" on screen since it makes the screen not as slippery. It lasts pretty long - I've been using my first sheet for over 2 months now & it's still works really well and looks fine too. |
Jazper | Too expensive, and wear out too quickly (especially over graffiti area) |
| I've used writerights since day 1 with my trgpro and now with my palm Vx, (won't go into detail about how I traded the trg for the Vx) but with these writerites visibility is an issue, and as I said earlier.. they wear too quickly over the graffiti area (I use scotch magic (#811) tape to cover that area now.. it's cheaper and has a nicer texture) |
joe | Use Color WinCE version - it's great! |
| I used to always worry about scratching the screen on my visor, and I worried about a screen protector blurring my screen. I bought the WriteRights for color WinCE devices. They seem to fit just right, and I don't see any loss of clarity. Although they are a bit pricey, the comfort factor is worth it. |
Anonymous | Makes Screen Blurry and Dim -- Terrible Product |
| I love the idea of a screen protector, however this product besides being over-priced, makes the screen significantly dimmer, which makes it hard to read, but very blurry--so what you can read gives you a head ache...if they only had perfectly clear WriteRights versus the textured ones....too bad. |
