Cashier used PalmPilot to Steal Credit Card Numbers

Wednesday November 24, 1999 - 1:00 PM EST - By James Hromadka

A cashier at Bloomingdales in New York was busted when a customer noticed the cashier scanned his credit card twice. It was discovered that the cashier had a PalmPilot connected to a credit card scanner.

PalmPilots could store thousands of credit card numbers. Using the IR one could obtain the frequency to unlock keyless entry car doors, and there have been reports of using Palm-organizers for dialing a payphone for free. Wait until hackers start making springboards!
