Palm licenses Bluetooth software

Thursday February 24, 2000 - 4:41 AM EST - By Marcus Adolfsson

Extended Systems has licensed its Bluetooth software to 3Com Corporation for use in Palm products.

Extended Systems' embedded protocol stack has been ported to run with the Palm operating system. The stack manages the sending and receiving of data in accordance with the Bluetooth 1.0 specification.

Bluetooth technology is a specification for small form factor, low-cost, wireless communication and networking between PCs, mobile phones and other portable devices. Bluetooth uses an omni-directional radio signal to connect multiple devices up to 10 meters apart, and replaces proprietary cables to provide voice and data transmissions via wireless, short-range radio.
