Microsoft on Handspring Wednesday September 15, 1999 - 3:30 AM EST - By Scott Cropper Early last month, before Handspring announced the Visor, Microsoft had a press release stating that "The Visor is rumored to run on the same basic platform as the 3Com Palm series of devices, but is more focused on the teen market." The bulletin goes on to say that Windows CE is an "industry-wide platform approach that includes multiple hardware manufacturers" and that Handspring "will build both the hardware and the software themselves." Microsoft, correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the PalmOS platform has multiple hardware manufacturers; including Palm Computing; Handspring, and Symbol Technologies. Also, you state that the PalmOS is a basic platform, yet it currently has around an 80% share of the palm size computer market that Windows CE is struggling in. |
