There have been a lot of news stories recently about the long-term dangers of cell phone usage. What is the impact of holding a cell phone against your head? While the jury is still out on the long-term effects of cell phone usage, you can use the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) of a cell phone to determine what's getting reflected back to your head.
Since the VisorPhone was just released, I wanted to find out what its SAR was.
According to the FCC, the highest reported SAR value for the head is 0.48 W/kg.
If you Wear the VisorPhone, the SAR on the body is 0.22 W/kg. These numbers are based on PCS-1900 MHz usage and will be different for international GSM frequencies.
So are those numbers good? The maximum SAR that the FCC allows is 1.6 W/kg, so the VisorPhone does a pretty good job of shielding the user.
If you want to find the SAR of other cell phones or see how well the VisorPhone stacks up, you can start at the FCC website or the SAR Data website.
Discuss SAR here.
